Target: Nepal Chief Commissioner, Lokman Singh Karki
Goal: Stop the mass killing of animals during a traditional Nepalese festival
In the biggest animals sacrifice in the world, over half a million animals will be sacrificed at the Gadhimai Temple in Nepal. Devotees will attend a 30-day festival at the temple and kill innocent animals with the belief that this will satisfy their gods and bring them wealth and good fortune. Animal rights activists are horrified by the news and have formed together to stop the event from happening.
Nepalese animal rights advocates gathered together at the temple in Katmandu, Nepal to protest the mass killing of animals during the Nepalese festival. This festival occurs every five years and will start again in November 2014. They hope that the protests will send a message to religious groups that they do not need to kill animals in order to carry out their religious events. Activists from the Animal Welfare Network Nepal along with 50 other people gathered at the temple and repeated slogans against the animal killings.
This protest sparked worldwide support in countries such as India and England from various organizations such as PETA and Compassion in World Farming. All are sending the message that the festival should be discontinued once and for all. In order to do so, the Nepalese government must stop funding this cruel and inhumane festival.
Please sign this petition to demand the Nepalese government terminate this festival and end the horrible suffering that it entails.
Dear Chief Commissioner Karki,
Thousands of people will gather together at the Gadhimai Temple to attend a month-long festival to sacrifice animals to their gods. This sacrifice entails that horrendous suffering be inflicted on animals and we demand that you put an end to it.
When you fund such a cruel event, you are telling the world that you condone the brutal killing of over 500,000 innocent animals. We believe that this festival can still take place without animal sacrifices. Protest against this festival has generated an abundance of support from all over the world. An international coalition of animal rights activists and organizations have called upon you to end this festival’s horrific animal sacrifices.
We urge you to stop funding this event in order to end the festival’s brutal animal sacrifices.
