Target: Clorox Chairman and CEO, Donald R. Knauss
Goal: Thank the Clorox Company for finding a new use for their product as a water purifier in rural countries
Bleach is a powerful chemical that is able to clean and sanitize many household items, but few people know that it can also be used to purify water. Since 2012, the Clorox Company has worked on a project called “Clorox’s Safe Water Project,” which is an initiative to help purify water in rural regions such as communities in northern Peru.
According to the Clorox Company website, they partnered with an NGO organization called PRISM to install water dispensers full of diluted mixtures of sodium hypochlorite, the main component in Clorox bleach. The dispensers were developed in Africa and strategically installed near public water sources to urge families to use the purifiers on their water before taking it home. The plan was simple; get people to add very small amounts of bleach to their water to kill off dangerous bacteria and viruses that can kill them. Bleach has been proven to kill off all kinds of bacteria and viruses that are commonly found in unpurified water.
Due to the success of these water dispensers, Clorox plans to continue to expand the project to reach a quarter of a million people in the next three years.
Please sign this petition to thank the Clorox Company for providing clean water for families who need it.
Dear Mr. Knauss,
Clorox’s Safe Water Project has been growing strong for the last couple of years. It is great to hear that your company is able to save lives with such a simple and familiar product. Rural countries are not given the luxury of cleaning their household items whenever they want to. Your innovative use of bleach to kill off bacteria and viruses in water is an extraordinary idea. The water dispenser is an affordable and ecological solution for the treatment of dirty water and can be easily installed in rural neighborhoods near communal water sources.
Not only are you giving the people of Peru purified water, you are also educating them about bacteria and viruses that can harm them. Your safe water project initiative will be able to save so many lives. Thank you for practicing corporate social responsibility and doing your part for the less fortunate.
