Target: Benny Tai, Occupy Central Leader
Goal: Support the pro-democracy protestors as they stand up for their beliefs after a bloody attack on their peaceful protest
Pro-democracy protestors in Hong Kong want the power to choose their own Chief Executive, the top leader, without any involvement by China. Although the protesters have been organizing the protests since early summer, things began to heat up when Beijing made sure that in the new rules to nominate a candidate, each candidate would need to be vetted and assessed by China’s leadership. This understandably angered the protestors who have hoped for the chance to elect their own leader. Due to Beijing’s decision, many student groups have started to come out to join the protest at the Hong Kong government headquarters.
As the protests continue, anti-democracy people have begun lashing out against the protestors. More recently, the peaceful sit-in was violently attacked by thugs who vehemently disagree with the protestors’ beliefs. Many of the protesters were left bloodied and in tears. At other protests, pictures show the peaceful protestors being smothered with tear gas and pepper spray with only umbrellas to protect themselves. These acts of violence only serve to motivate thousands of others to come and support the protests.
Despite their peaceful intentions, the protestors continue to be met with aggressive policemen and officials. However, the protestors still remain determined and focused. Sign this petition and support the pro-democracy protestors of Hong Kong as they stand up for their beliefs amid aggressive and violent responses from the anti-democracy people.
Dear Benny Tai,
Since Beijing’s decision in August to have each Chief Executive candidate vetted and assessed by China’s leadership, the number of people joining the protest for democracy has greatly increased. More recently, student groups have formed the front lines of the protests. As the number of protesters continue to increase, I believe that more attention will be drawn to this important issue.
I understand that your peaceful protests have become more violent and bloody as anti-occupy people express their feelings of opposition about these protests. As long as the protesters continue to be determined and focused, there is nothing the anti-democracy people can do to deter them.
I am writing to give you my full support, because I also believe that citizens should be allowed the chance to elect their own leader.
