Stop Intimidating Pro-Union Workers

Striking Workers

Target: Burger King CEO Daniel S. Schwartz

Goal: Stop the intimidation of pro-union Burger King employees by management

A Burger King franchise in Michigan was recently found guilty of using union-busting tactics to intimidate employees who were attempting to improve their lives. A judge ruled that the franchise broke labor laws with actions such as threatening workers who discussed protests on the job, creating and enforcing a “no solicitation” rule between employees, and sending home a pro-union worker for failing to place pickles in a perfect square on a burger.

National fast food chains such as Burger King have been under recent fire for their low wages, lack of employee benefits, poor working conditions, and general mistreatment of staff. The stagnation of the minimum wage and rampant worker abuses have gotten so bad that they’ve resulted in nation-wide strikes and other organized efforts to obtain a living wage and make the lives of these workers bearable. Unsurprisingly, some of these restaurants have responded with union-busting behavior in an effort to intimidate employees into submission.

These tactics must not be tolerated by the American people if we ever want to see justice for fast food employees and other underpaid workers. A lack of a living wage for these individuals has caused economic recovery to stagnate and forces people to rely on already strained welfare programs. Sign this petition to demand that Burger King put a stop to any and all intimidation tactics by management and start treating its employees with the basic respect they deserve.

Dear Mr. Schwartz,

It recently came to light that the management of one of your Burger King franchises was engaging in illegal union-busting actions such as threatening workers for discussing organized protests and unfairly targeting pro-union employees for discipline. The problem was so severe that it was taken to court, and the judge found your franchise guilty of breaking labor laws put in place to protect workers and allow them to demand fair treatment.

I want you to know that I will not tolerate union busting from your company. I stand with Burger King workers in their efforts to obtain a living wage and an environment where they’re treated with dignity and respect. These people are the lifeblood of your company and the entire reason it’s able to function. You owe your wealth to these workers and they deserve to be paid enough to live without having to rely on welfare programs. If you fail to provide that for them then you should expect unions to be formed, and any attempt by management to stop it is not only illegal, but morally repugnant.

I demand that you take action to prevent any further union busting from the management employees of your company. The individuals from the Michigan franchise must be held accountable and appropriately punished for their actions, and all other managers should be instructed to refrain from using intimidation tactics unless they want to have their employment terminated. Take responsibility for your company and do the right thing for your employees.
