Target: Doug McMillon, Walmart President and CEO
Goal: Demand apology from Walmart for blaming actor Tracy Morgan for accident that nearly took his life
Actor Tracy Morgan and three others were recently injured in a six-car crash started by a Walmart truck. The accident left several people injured and one dead. Morgan’s lawsuit alleges that the bus driver had been on the road for 24 hours straight. Walmart countered with a statement claiming that Morgan and his associates were responsible for the injuries they sustained, because they were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Demand that Walmart rescind this despicable legal tactic and issue an apology to the victims of this tragic accident.
Walmart argues that there is no evidence showing that the accident was caused by a Walmart truck. In addition, its lawyers argue that the company could be the victim here, as the lawsuit violates its right to due process. Walmart should be condemned for blaming the victims of its harmful truck-driving practices and policies.
Morgan, who is still confined to a wheelchair, and his associates must now submit a statement regarding how much they expect to be compensated by Walmart. It is thought that the company has asked for this statement so as to calculate an out-of-court settlement once public interest has died down a bit. Sign this petition to demand Walmart apologize for their conduct in this case and to assume complete responsibility for this accident.
Dear Mr. McMillon,
Walmart’s decision to blame Tracy Morgan and the rest of the victims of this tragic accident is despicable. The facts of the case show that your company, specifically its policies that result in overly tired truck drivers, is to blame. The public sees that and I hope that a jury will also.
Acting in this way as a corporation is sure to lose your loyal following. With all the labor disputes that your company is famous for, one would think that when you have the chance to do something right, you might take it. This is disappointing and I hope that you will take this opportunity to right this wrong and publicly apologize to Tracy Morgan and those your company so gravely affected.
