Target: Solar Instructor Training Network Project Manager Joe Sarubbi
Goal: Praise program to train veterans in solar energy jobs
The Obama administration continues to show its love for both solar power and veterans. The White House blog recently announced that the Department of Energy (DOE) will be undertaking a new solar training program in conjunction with a few military bases to bring vital new job skills to veterans. The DOE joined forces with the Departments of Labor and Education in 2009 to launch the Solar Instructor Training Network in order to build a nationwide network of trained solar workers by creating opportunities for people to become trainers and subsidizing certification and accreditation. The Network is now part of the DOE Solar Energy Technologies Office’s SunShot Initiative, a comprehensive plan for making sustainable solar power affordable and accessible in the U.S. As a result of the Solar Instructor Training Network, over 30,000 trained solar workers and 1,000 certified trainers have entered the industry since 2009.
In this new program for veterans, the Network will be partnering with up to three military bases to give approximately 30 individuals from each base the opportunity to attend an accredited solar training institution. Those who participate in the pilot program will be prepared for a variety of careers in the solar industry, from inspectors and installers to sales representatives. The even better news is that three major U.S. solar companies have agreed to interview the trainees upon their completion of the pilot program. In addition, the DOE will be able to apply the lessons learned to an expanded service member training program that will make use of its community of almost 400 partner training institutions.
By signing this petition, you are thanking Joe Sarubbi and the Solar Instructor Training Network for helping to make the expansion of the solar industry and the training of American service members possible.
Dear Joe Sarubbi,
The success of the Solar Instructor Training Network has been incredible. Your train-the-trainer model has been a boon to the solar industry, and I am delighted that you are planning to expand your program to military bases in the near future. With solar energy on the rise, training in the solar industry is the ultimate in a sustainable employment plan and a great opportunity for American veterans.
Thank you for helping American service members acquire training and certification in solar energy, and demonstrating a dual commitment to American citizens and sustainability. Thank you for working tirelessly to promote the growth of the solar industry through high-quality training that is accessible to all Americans. I hope you will continue to expand the Solar Instructor Training Network and bring even more Americans into this burgeoning sustainable industry.
