Stop Dropping Live Turkeys from Planes

Target: Shawn Lane, Mayor of Yellville, Arkansas

Goal: Stop cruel festival tradition of dropping live turkeys from planes

In the past, a cruel event where planes senselessly drop turkeys from the air for the sake of entertainment has been a tradition at a festival in Yellville, Arkansas. While this heartless and illegal activity is now banned, there have been reports that an unofficial turkey drop may be planned for this year’s festival.

In October, Yellville officials are set to hold their annual Turkey Trot Festival. For years, the turkey drop event was a tradition at the festival. Spectators watched as flightless wild turkeys were cruelly dropped from private planes from heights of about 1,000 feet. This disgusting tradition ensures the turkeys would needlessly plummet to their deaths by slamming into buildings, cars and streets. This is an incredibly inhumane, twisted form of ‘entertainment’ that causes unnecessary terror and inevitable death for the poor creatures involved.

Thankfully, because this activity explicitly violates Arkansas’ state law and Federal Aviation Administration regulations, the annual turkey drop event is now banned at future festivals. However, there have been reports that unidentified pilots may be planning an unofficial turkey drop for this year’s Turkey Trot festival, according to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals officials.

It is the responsibility of city officials to ensure that no illegal activity occurs at the festival. Urge Yellville’s mayor to ensure this year’s festival remains cruelty free and ensure no unofficial turkey drops are performed.

Dear Mayor Lane,

As you probably know, a cruel tradition of Yellville’s annual Turkey Trot festival called the turkey drop has been banned due to its illegal and inhumane nature. While I applaud city officials’ active ban on the event, I am extremely concerned about recent reports that an unofficial turkey drop may be planned by unidentified pilots for this year’s festival in October.

No animal deserves to feel the unnecessary terror of plummeting to their death for the sake of a twisted form of entertainment, nor do they deserve to die a senseless death. Such activity also violates state law and Federal Aviation Administration regulations. As an animal welfare advocate, I urge you and your fellow city officials to do everything possible to investigate these concerning reports and prevent any unofficial turkey drops at this year’s Turkey Trot festival.

Everyone involved should be prosecuted for animal cruelty. Stop this vicious and insane turkey drop.

  2. Besides unbelievable cruelty, what are these evil citizens aiming to prove? What example are they trying to display for children????
Drop these criminals instead so they never do such barbaric injury to society again.

  3. These clowns really can’t think of anything better to do with their lives?

  4. Despina M. Andrelus says:

“A righteous man regards the life of animals” – PROVERBS 12:10; “If you have men who will exclude any of God’s creatures from the shelter of compassion & pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men” – ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI; “Never, never be afraid to do what’s right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society’s punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.” – MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.; “I hope to make people realize how totally helpless animals are, how dependent on us, trusting as a child must that we will be kind and take care of their needs…(They) are an obligation put on us, a responsibility we have no rights to neglect, nor to violate by cruelty….” – JAMES HARRIOT; “The greatness of a nation & its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated” – MAHATMA GANDHI

  5. Despina M. Andrelus says:

Abuse is the ultimate betrayal towards any living soul and absolutely heartbreaking all the way around. You simply can not do such a horrific thing without it killing the best in you. Period. If you find people happily willing to hurt an animal in any way, they are actually finding a venue to act out their deepest, most inner evil fantasies of twisted sickness. There’s nothing more revolting than that. Aside from this, it has been proven over and over again that people who have horrid intents with animals, get bored with them soon enough, ultimately leading them to bigger prey, moving up to people, in order to re-ignite and enhance the excitement that the torturing of animals used to provide. It’s simply never enough. And do not forget, these horrendous monsters also end up raising their children in “the game”, breeding evil, little sickos to continue on “the trade”… no doubt causing abuse in every level of their lives, as well. It’s just a revolting cycle that will never end until someone gets into it and breaks the heart-wrenching pattern. So, even if an animal is not of some peoples utmost concern, then note that it will not stop there. It is just a start. And it is just a matter of time.

Is there no end to animal cruelty~ So many people devoid of compassion walking around with nothing better to do than
treat animals in a most inhumane and barbaric way~

  7. Heather Alexander says:

I find it both curious and fascinating and disgusting, to observe members of society who rejoice at, and engage in cruelty. You expect this behaviour from 3rd world countries and from societies who are too ignorant to have feelings of compassion. You would think that even people living in Arkansas would have evolved enough that they would know that this is disgraceful. It dies make you wonder about them doesn’t it????

  8. Shannon Bernardo says:

Perhaps the mayor should see how it feels to be flightless and punted from a plane at 1000 feet without a parachute….fitting justice I think….

  9. A “tradition” ? What’s next ? People-droppings ?

  10. caryl sawyer says:

For God’s sake, people! It’s Arkansas. Expecting something different?

  11. Sam Outhorn says:

Very stupid! Obscene ! How come the local government allows this anyway?

  12. Lesley Robinson says:

What is wrong with the braindeads in Yellville? Are they really so damned inbred and cretinous that they can’t think of any other way to enjoy a festival, the miserable morons? What a horrible town, what horrible ignorant brutal deviants. Anyone looking to test a pocket nuke should start with Yellville.

  13. WTF?!?!?! Just when I thought I had heard about every conceivable way that so-called “humans” could abuse, torture and murder helpless animals !!!! If this is what passes for entertainment in Yellville, Arkansas, then that town’s entire community needs to be educated about animal cruelty and abuse. This is one of the most shameful and disgusting acts of inhumanity that I’ve ever heard about. Even worse is what these uneducated hillbillies are teaching their children. What the HELL is wrong with people ?!?!?!

    • Jane Morrow says:

Yes, you would have to wonder what sort of low-brain, moronic society could even think of something like this. Its de-evolution in action. Maybe some Ebola suffers should be sent there and do us all a favour. Animals are equals and should be treated with respect and compassion.

  14. Paul Fuller says:

I really wish I could take some of you people up and kick you out of a plane.. needless, pathetic, ignorant half breeds…you stink…

  15. What absolute bloody wankers! Cruel, disgusting pieces of crap. I can’t believe anyone would find this entertaining. I wish someone would drop you out of a plane – maybe at a higher altitude so you have more time to contemplate your fate on the way down. You make me sick!

  16. I think they should drop these useless bastards themselves, and leave these poor birds alone, again, more cowards

  17. Nigel Franks says:

How can this be a tradition? We’ve only had planes for just over one hundred years!

  18. Droppping turkeys from the air for the sake of entertainment has been a tradition at a festival in Yellville, Arkansas ???? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU POEPLE????
How would you like us to give you the same treatment?????

  19. jaclyn bisanz says:

wow. what a horrible tradition. why in the world do they keep such a violent and twisted tradition? sickening!
