Target: John S. Leonardo, District Attorney of Arizona

Goal: Demand harsh punishment for professional football player who beat his wife and son

An NFL football player was recently charged for assaulting his wife and toddler son. Arizona Cardinals’ running back, Jonathan Dwyer, has been taken into custody by the Phoenix police after allegedly breaking his wife’s nose and throwing a shoe at their young son in an act of rage inside their home.

Sadly, this is not Dwyer’s first act of violence against his family. Dwyer has allegedly attacked his wife numerous times in the past, but nothing was done about the incidents since she was prevented from reporting to the police by her abusive husband. In one such instance, witnesses heard violent arguments in the Dwyer household and called police, but Dwyer’s wife was manipulated by Dwyer into lying to cover up the abusive relationship.

In the most recent incident, Dwyer’s wife reportedly confronted him with cheating allegations. During their argument, Dwyer hit his wife in the face, breaking her nose. He then caused damage throughout the house and threw a shoe at their son’s stomach. After this incident, witnesses helped Dwyer’s wife pack up her things and leave the household with their son. Dwyer has been disengaged by the Cardinals, and faces several charges due to the alleged incidents.

Please sign the petition below to urge John S. Leonardo, the district attorney of Arizona, to ensure that Jonathan Dwyer receives a strict sentence for his violent actions. Assaulting a spouse and toddler is an inexcusable crime, and he should be held accountable.

Dear John S. Leonardo,

Domestic violence is a major issue in the United States, affecting approximately one in three women and one in four men. Oftentimes, the victims of these domestic violence cases are not able to report and reach out to the police for a number of reasons, including being prevented from reporting by the aggressor. The abuses that NFL running back Jonathan Dwyer inflicted on his wife and young toddler are inexcusable, and reflect the serious concern of domestic violence in society.

I urge you to ensure that Dwyer receives a strict sentence so that he will not commit any further atrocious acts towards his wife and son. This is not the first time that Dwyer abused his family, and Dwyer’s wife and son should be given the justice they deserve. If Dwyer is let off leniently for his abusive behaviors, he may not change his current violent habits, and could commit more serious crimes in the future.

  2. To say that the entire NFL needs to attend an “abuse education / prevention” seminar would be an enormous understatement. There is NO EXCUSE for domestic violence !!! What’s more … our entire society must stand against this criminal behavior and agree that abusers need both counseling and prison time. Only then will these abusers realize that there are severe consequences for their inhumane actions. Oh, and by the way …. there are things in life that are far more important that the NFL and other sports – i.e. FAMILY !!!!!!
