Target: Madison County Sheriff Blake L. Dorning
Goal: Initiate a criminal investigation into the “bait” rape case at Sparkman Middle School
A teacher’s assistant named June Simpson at Sparkman Middle School in Huntsville, Alabama sent a 14-year-old special needs student into a bathroom where another special needs student, who was 16 years old at the time, was waiting. The older student had a documented history of sexual violence and aggression, and the school’s plan was to essentially “catch the boy in the act.” However, no adult stopped the attack and the 14-year-old girl was viciously sodomized. Jeanne Dunaway, the assistant principal at the time, allegedly knew about the “bait” rape plan beforehand but did nothing to prevent it from happening. Dunaway even testified that the young girl was “responsible for her actions once she entered the bathroom.”
Principal Ronnie Blair had refused to allow Simpson to separate the 16-year-old boy from other students, which led to Simpson’s decision to “catch the boy in the act” in the bathroom. While Simpson has already resigned, Principal Blair has refused to punish Dunaway for doing nothing to stop the incident. In fact, all of the school administrators accused of “deliberate indifference” still remain in their job positions and Dunaway has even been promoted. Since then, the young girl’s family has filed a lawsuit against Principal Blair, Dunaway, Simpson, the Madison County school board, and the 16-year-old male student. Other petitions have demanded Blair and Dunaway to be fired from their jobs and to begin a criminal investigation into their negligent actions.
Please sign this petition to demand a criminal investigation into the gross, negligent actions of Principal Ronnie Blair and assistant principal Jeanne Dunaway that led to an innocent girl’s rape.
Dear Blake L. Dorning,
Teacher assistant June Simpson concocted a disgusting plan to bait a student with a history of sexual violence and aggression to rape an innocent special needs student. Although Simpson told assistant principal Jeanne Dunaway about her plan, nothing was done to stop it. Since then, Principal Ronnie Blair has failed to take action against Dunaway as well. This is absolutely ridiculous, as school administrators are supposed to protect their students. Parents should not have to worry about their children being sexually assaulted when they send them off to school.
The young girl who was raped deserves justice for the trauma she has needlessly experienced due to the actions of negligent, incompetent, and immoral adults. It is appalling to me that there were so many opportunities for someone to step in and prevent this incident, but no one did. Not only that, but no one has been punished for their cruel indifference. I am urging you not to let this case be swept aside. Please investigate June Simpson, Jeanne Dunaway, and Ronnie Blair and charge them for their heartless crimes.
