Target: Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Turkey
Goal: Thank Turkey for opening its borders to Kurdish people fleeing from northern Syria
The recent exodus of over 70,000 Kurds was the result of the Islamist extremist group, the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, seizing control of 60 Kurdish villages. Although many Kurdish fighters stayed behind to fight back forces and resist the ISIS, their weapons did not stand a chance against the highly advanced and sophisticated American arms the ISIS militants looted from Iraqi soldiers. With the ISIS causing so much terror and violence, it certainly means a great deal when another country is willing to open up its borders to help fleeing refugees. Turkey, seeing that thousands of people were in distress and filled with fear, opened up its borders giving the Kurdish people a safe haven.
More than 70,000 Kurds have fled their homes in an attempt to escape the increasing atrocities and intensified assaults on their people. At least 80 percent of the fleeing Kurds are women, children, or elderly people who are in great need of protection. If Turkey had refused to assist the Kurdish people, the Kurds fleeing northern Syria would not have had anywhere else to go since the extremist group ISIS is succeeding in taking control of their villages.
By allowing the Kurdish people to seek a safe haven beyond its borders and offering aid and shelter, the country of Turkey is doing everything it can to assist the Kurdish people through this very difficult time. Sign this petition and thank the country of Turkey for opening its borders to the Kurdish people and giving them the aid they desperately need.
Dear President Recep Tayyip Erdogan,
I would like to thank you and your country for being a great help to the Kurdish people during this very difficult time in their lives. Nearly 70,000 Kurds have fled their homes and villages due to the rampages and intensifying assaults from the Islamist extremist group ISIS.
You could have chosen to shut your country’s borders and left the Kurdish people helpless, but instead you stepped up and gave these people help when they needed it the most. At least 80 percent of the refugees are women, children, and the elderly who are in great need of protection.
Once again, I would like to thank you and your country for all that you have done to assist the Kurdish people. I hope that many other countries follow in your footsteps and decide to help those who are terrorized by the ISIS.
