Close Cruel Animal Research Laboratories

Target: Johanna Wanka, Federal Minister of Education and Research

Goal: Implement tougher ethics legislation for animal research laboratories

Macaque monkeys are being subjected to barbaric and painful experiments in a research institute in Germany. Footage taken inside the Max Planck Institute’s laboratories and released by a German news station depicts bloodied and distressed monkeys being starved and prodded with instruments.

The experiments, which the news channel described as basic research into cybernetic brain processors, involve embedding instruments into the brain cavities of monkeys. The macaques are sedated before the plastic implants are installed, however, when they awake they often react badly by frantically scratching and ripping out the implants, resulting in excessive blood loss.

After the experiments, some of the monkeys are unable to perform basic functions such as walking or lifting their arms. Others suffer from infected head wounds and symptoms of contracting necrotizing fasciitis, a flesh-eating disease caused by bacterial infection. The monkeys are even denied food and water in order to tire them out and make them more compliant with experiments. Those that do not comply with handlers instructions are ripped from their cages with tongs as punishment.

Unfortunately, German laboratories are allowed to perform these brutal experiments due to lax ethics laws on animal experimentation. In order to stop these cruel experiments now and in the future, it is important that legislation is created and enforced to prohibit them. Your signature on the petition below will demand that Germany examine and change regulations for the protection of laboratory animals.

Dear Ms. Johanna Wanka,

Scientists at the Max Planck Institute in Germany are subjecting macaque monkeys to painful and invasive experiments, starvation, and mistreatment. The experiments involve placing plastic implants into monkeys’ brain cavities, causing them discomfort and stress. The monkeys will often rip the implants out of their own heads, causing heavy bleeding, infection, and loss of basic bodily functions. The monkeys are starved and mishandled to the point where open wounds have developed signs of flesh eating disease.

This kind of cruel treatment is possible in German research facilities because of a lack of ethics laws concerning animal testing. The German government must implement stricter protection laws in order to prohibit these barbaric and invasive experiments. We, the undersigned, demand a review of animal testing regulations in order to find and improve the loopholes that allow these horrific experiments.

  1. Lab testing on animals is soooo wrong!!! and it does no good as far as the human body is concerned. I refuse to purchase anything that has been tested on animals. I don’t even see how this could be legal~~it is blatant animal cruely/torture/murder. The people who do this love to kill. Put the hardened criminals that we, as taxpayers, are keeping up for the rest of their sorry lives and test on them~~they need to be contributing something to this society. Leave the helpless, voiceless, defenseless animals be and let them live in peace~~they have committed no crime.

  2. George Johnson says:

There is no need to test anything on an animal! Scientists know what chemicals do harm or poking and prodding and drugging animals is not acceptable in this day and age! How about the companies test on themselves?
