Target: President Barack Obama
Goal: Release classified documents exposing the groups who funded the 9/11 terrorist attacks
After 9/11, families of World Trade Center victims demanded an investigation into the terrorist attacks. The investigation committee published an extensive report but did not allow the public to view 28 pages of it which dealt with the financiers of the terrorists. Many groups have asked the government to release these pages but so far nothing has come of these attempts. In 2009, Obama declared he would release the omitted pages, but never did. It is time for the victims’ families and the rest of the American people to know the truth of who really funded the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
As stated in the investigation report, the withheld 28 pages contain information about “specific sources of foreign support for some of the September 11 hijackers while they were in the United States.” Former Senator Bob Graham has been calling for the pages’ declassification for years. He knows what is held within those pages due to his former position as co-chair of the committee on the investigation and maintains that the information does not pose a threat to national security.
A bipartisan bill has been raised in the House of Representatives calling on President Obama to release the classified pages. The same request was made to the Bush Administration in 2003 by 44 senators including Hillary Clinton and John Kerry. In the request, the senators wrote, “The decision to classify this information sends the wrong message to the American people about our nation’s anti-terror efforts and makes it seem as if there will be no penalty for foreign abettors of the hijackers.” However, the Bush Administration still ignored the request. It is obvious that the government fears the American public’s reaction to this vital information.
The declassification of these documents will not endanger national security but strengthen it by enabling the people to know who financed the attacks on our country. While these pages are concealed, the bankrollers of terrorism can remain hidden and keep funding terrorist acts with impunity. Please urge Obama to release the classified 28 pages of the 9/11 investigation report.
Dear President Obama,
The 9/11 investigation report is unable to be viewed in its entirety by the public. Twenty-eight pages that deal with who funded the terrorist attacks have been concealed for thirteen years despite multiple requests and demands for them to be released. It is the right of the victims’ families and the rest of the American people to know who bankrolled the most significant terrorist attack our country has ever seen.
By continuing to conceal these documents, you are sending a message to the American people that the government has something to hide and that we do not deserve to know who our enemies are. Also, as senators wrote in a previous request to the Bush Administration, not releasing these pages “makes it seem as if there will be no penalty for foreign abettors of the hijackers.”
The American people deserve to know the contents of these documents as they deal with public safety. It is your job as the president to protect the American people and disclose this information. Please stop hiding these 28 pages from us and declassify them.
