Target: Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court John G. Roberts
Goal: Stop states from defining a marriage as a union between man and woman
Since the Supreme Court ruled that the right to marry should also belong to same sex couples, a torrent of rulings, cases, hearings, and trials have taken place. Many states have opposed the ruling, and are trying to use their state sovereignty rights to forbid marriages. These states are arguing that a marriage should be a union between a man and a woman. These rulings defy the federal government and are in violation of human rights. To settle the matter, the states are imploring the Justices to settle this matter soon. The Justices should stand with their previous ruling, and that is standing with the right to same sex marriage.
As of right now, nineteen states including the District of Columbia allow gay marriage. Louisiana is the only state that has a prohibition against same sex marriage, but fourteen other states have tried to appeal the Justice’s ruling. Many states who have been struck down by federal judges have written up appeals to the Supreme Court, and because the movement still has so much momentum, it’s likely that the Supreme Court Justices will look at this case shortly. Businesses as well are keen for the justices to settle this matter, as the different laws on gay marriage have placed many families in stressful situations about their financial outlook.

Dear Chief Justice John G. Roberts,
Many states and businesses are urging you and your fellow Justices to settle the matter of gay marriage, and to do so swiftly and immediately. This issue is a hot topic, one that has many citizens up in arms. Despite settling this matter, many states are still trying to ban gay marriages. I find this unsettling, as these states are willing to violate a human right and interfere with a human being’s happiness.
I am writing this letter to urge you to stop states from defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman. The Supreme Court has ruled in favor of gay marriage, which should have settled this matter. It astounds me that there are state governments who do not understand that a person can intimately love someone of the same sex. Please protect our human rights and settle this matter in favor of gay marriage.
