Denounce China’s Dog Cull

Stray Dog

Target: Xi Jinping, President of China

Goal: Denounce China’s dog cull of nearly 5,000 dogs out of fear of rabies

Chinese authorities have killed nearly 5,000 dogs in the Yunnan province in China. This massive dog cull was instigated by the five recent human deaths caused by rabies. When the Chinese government feels the threat of rabies is large, it often orders these widespread culls and bans dog ownership in an effort to control the spread of rabies.

Many Chinese dog owners and animal rights activists are protesting the government’s decision to kill 5,000 dogs. The Chinese government issued an extreme order for authorities to strictly regulate dogs and kill any stray animals. This cull has unnecessarily taken the lives of so many dogs already. Animal rights activists argue that instead of killing dogs, the government should be working toward vaccinating the dogs.

The Chinese government’s decision to kill these dogs is absolutely unnecessary. Five thousand innocent lives could have been saved if the government had simply opted for more vaccinations. These poor animals were discriminated and killed out of fear. Sign this petition and denounce the Chinese government for ordering this cull of nearly 5,000 dogs.

Dear President Xi Jinping,

It has come to my attention that your government has recently issued an urgent order calling all authorities to strictly regulate dogs and kill any stray animal they can find. This order has resulted in the deaths of nearly 5,000 dogs in the southwest Yunnan province. These stray dogs were discriminated against and killed out of fear when there was another option that would have saved their lives.

I understand that you are worried about a rabies outbreak after the recent deaths of five humans, which were allegedly caused by rabies, but targeting stray dogs is not the answer. I believe that dog owners and animal rights activists will agree with me when I say that the deaths of these dogs are outrageous and unnecessary. Instead of ordering a widespread cull of stray dogs, you and your government should be working toward a plan to vaccinate them.

If there is any chance to save the lives of dogs in your country, I feel that you should take steps to protect them. These 5,000 dogs should not have been killed. I urge you to please stop culling stray dogs and not to let fear dictate your actions.
