Target: Miss Asia Pacific World Pageant President, Lawrence Choi
Goal: Reprimand pageant for revoking title from beauty queen for refusing to get breast implants
Sixteen year old beauty queen May Myat Noe was asked to surrender her title after she refused to get breast implants when she was asked to by the pageant. This pageant should be punished for their unjust and degrading actions.
The Miss Asia Pacific World Pageant recently offered to pay for breast implants for the young beauty queen, and when she refused, they asked her to give up her crown. As reported in the Guardian, Director of Media for The Miss Asia Pacific World Pageant said “We thought she should be more beautiful…so as soon as she arrived we sent her to the hospital to operate on her breasts”. The pageant cited her as ungrateful and disloyal to the organization. They now want to award the crown to another contestant, but Noe still has it. Noe says that she will willingly surrender her crown, but only after she receives an apology from the organization.
The Miss Asia World Pageant is representing a disturbing display of body shaming and sexism. Girls should be honored and appreciated for their natural bodies, and should certainly not feel pressured or forced into plastic surgery to alter their image into something that they are not.
The Miss Asia Pacific World Pageant should be punished and possibly even ended for this incident. At the very least, they should make a full and sincere apology to Noe for their offensive remarks and actions.
Dear Miss Asia Pacific World Pageant President Lawrence Choi,
As you are aware, you recently attempted to revoke the crown of a beauty queen after you awarded her with the honor. Sixteen year old May Myat Noe refused to get breast implants after you insisted that she do so to maintain her title. This incident is a disgusting display of sexism and body shaming.
Girls should be honored and appreciated for their natural bodies, and should certainly not feel pressured or forced into plastic surgery to alter their image into something that they are not. In fact, Noe’s refusal of the plastic surgery proves that she is genuine and respectful of herself and her body which makes her all the more deserving of the pageant title.
We are writing to insist that you apologize to the girl for your actions and we are calling on you to do anything that you can to rectify the situation. We also ask that you honor your participants for who they are naturally and that you do not put them down or insist that they make changes to their bodies.
