Target: Dunkin’ Donuts President of Global Marketing and Innovation, John Costello
Goal: Thank popular coffee and donut chain for offering almond milk as a milk alternative in most of its locations
After about six years of persuasion from the cruelty-free community, Dunkin’ Donuts has finally added almond milk to its menu. Now, vegan or lactose intolerant guests can enjoy “cream” in their coffee or a vegan latte at 75 percent of Dunkin’ Donuts locations. This is an important step forward, as the Dunkin’ Donuts chain is massively popular.
As the world’s largest coffee and baked goods chain, it is a very good thing that Dunkin’ Donuts has acknowledged the growing cruelty-free movement. The animal advocacy group Compassion Over Killing (COK) first approached Dunkin’ Donuts about adding a dairy-free alternative to its menu in 2008. The accommodations started with individual locations offering soy milk, until further encouragement from COK led to Dunkin’ Donuts recently adding almond milk to the majority of its menus.
Armed with this victory, COK is now urging the restaurant chain to offer a vegan donut. As is seen with successful donut shops around the country, such as Mighty O Donuts and Voodoo Donuts, offering vegan donut options is an intelligent business move. Extending a milk-alternative to numerous patrons is an excellent step in the right direction. Commend Dunkin’ Donuts for understanding the necessity of milk-alternatives, and encourage the corporation to develop a vegan donut.
Dear Mr. Costello,
Recently, 75 percent of Dunkin’ Donuts locations started serving almond milk as an alternative to cows’ milk. I am writing to thank you for this accommodating change and to encourage you to introduce similar food menu offerings.
As you know, Compassion Over Killing, a passionate animal advocacy group, has been encouraging Dunkin’ Donuts to implement these changes since 2008. Backed by the vegan and lactose intolerant community, Compassion Over Killing greatly appreciates Dunkin’ Donuts’ changes. Based on the success of other donut companies with similar policies, introducing a vegan donut to your menu would be an intelligent business move. Just one or two vegan donut offerings normally suffice for those who are looking for such alternatives.
Please consider introducing a vegan donut to either the same menus that now offer almond milk, or all of your locations. This would ensure that those with a dairy allergy, or those simply following a vegan lifestyle, may enjoy a vegan donut along with their delicious almond milk latte. Thank you for your consideration and attention to this important matter. Your actions are greatly appreciated.
