Target: Golden North Ice Cream General Manager Peter Adamo
Goal: Support ice cream company that chose to make ice cream without palm oil
Food companies are big users of palm oil. That palm oil most certainly comes from deforested and ravaged habitats. Palm oil is sourced from Asia, Africa, and Latin America, but the majority of it comes from Indonesia and Malaysia. In these countries endangered species such as orangutans, the Sumatran Tiger, elephants, and rhinoceros are losing their homes. This makes it increasingly difficult for them to survive. Therefore, the use of palm oil in foods must be stopped, and luckily an Australian-based ice cream company, Golden North, made the decision not to use palm oil in any of its ice cream.
Golden North made a great decision which will help the environment, endangered animals, and local populations where palm oil is grown. Such efforts should be rewarded. Palm oil is an unnecessary component in many products, and when a company decides to take it out of the products it manufactures, it is clear that it is in an effort to be sustainable.
Everyone likes to have a cold ice cream on a hot summer day. Thankfully, Golden North has made it possible to enjoy a cold creamy treat without the guilt of knowing you are contributing to environmental destruction. Golden North deserves your support. Let them know you appreciate their efforts and choose to eat their ice cream when possible.
Dear Mr. Adamo,
You are likely aware of the environmental problems that come from palm oil use. The destruction of crucial habitat increases the pressures on already endangered species. Rainforest clearing also means an increase in the effects of global warming. The continued use of palm oil is something that will continue the degradation of our planet.
I am so happy to know that you do not use palm oil in your ice cream. You have clearly made an effort to be environmentally respectful. Thank you for your efforts. I can only hope that more companies will chose to move in the direction that Golden North has taken. You are a great leader and model of environmentally friendly business. You have my support and honest thanks.
