Target: Thomas J. Falk, CEO/Chairman of Scott Parent Company, Kimberly-Clark
Goal: Thank these makers of toilet paper for making an environmentally-conscious change to their product
One of the world’s leading paper companies is making a huge environmentally-beneficial change by altering the way they make their products. Scott Paper Company, the original inventor of toilet paper’s cardboard core, is now abandoning it all together. They are making the change so that they can decrease waste and reduce the environmental impact that toilet paper usually carries.
Reports show that the cardboard tubes have ended up in landfills and resulted in the pollution of waterways and damages to forests. According to the Natural Resources Defense Council, the paper industry is contributing to more worldwide environmental problems than any other industry in the world. While designing the new roll of toilet paper, the company made sure to keep the cost of the roll the same for their customers. The money saved by taking out the cardboard tubing offsets the expenses used to change the manufacturing equipment.
Scott Paper Company highlights on their website that over 17 billion paper tubes are thrown away each year. They estimated that it is enough to fill the Empire State Building two times. They have come up with a pledge for their customers with a catchphrase “toss the tube” to start lessening tube waste.
Please sign this petition to thank Scott Paper Company for their efforts in saving the environment with their new product design.
Dear Thomas J. Falk,
Scott tissue paper has become a household product for many and is known to be the inventor of the cardboard tubing insert in toilet paper rolls. I think it is great news that you and your company have taken the first steps to try to reduce environmental waste. It is a great idea to get rid of an insignificant part of the toilet paper that no one thinks twice about.
Your official website says that over 17 billion paper tubes are thrown away every year. That is a huge amount of product being wasted. Your new design is very innovative and is an easy way for people to reduce waste. The campaign to “toss the tube” is very creative and will get a lot of consumers following along.
Thank you for saving the environment by being the first toilet paper manufacturer to toss the cardboard tube.
