Denounce Housing Society for Charging Pet Owners

Target: Nirmala Chikramane, Chairperson of Talmakiwadi Cooperative Housing Society

Goal: Decry the housing society’s resolution to charge residents for strays on premises and owning pets

The Talmakiwadi Cooperative Housing Society has recently passed a resolution that requires each resident to pay 50 rupees for each pet animal they own. The housing society is also demanding that the residents pay the same amount for each stray cat or dog on the premises. Failure to pay the 50 rupees for each animal could result in having the animals evicted.

Some members of the housing society who passed this resolution have hateful feelings towards pets and have used this as a way to get rid of them. Other residents are compassionate and occasionally care for the helpless strays who live on the premises. Many of the current residents claim the stray animals who live on the premises are not causing any problems or trouble for anyone. One animal loving resident even took the initiative and got over 20 stray cats sterilized to keep them from over populating. These strays have only been able to survive as a result of the kindness and generosity of the residents and the housing society has taken advantage of that by demanding money.

If the residents do not comply, the stray animals will be evicted and forced out onto the streets where they are at risk of being run over by cars or dying of starvation if they do not know how to hunt for their own food. Pet owning residents are also at risk of losing their beloved family animals as well. Sign this petition and denounce this Mumbai housing society for its demanding resolution.

Dear Nirmala Chikramane,

It has come to my attention that the Talmakiwadi Cooperative Housing Society has recently passed a new resolution. According to the resolution, residents will have to pay 50 rupees for every pet they own and every stray animal on the premises. I believe that this resolution is unfair due to the fact that it was passed by society members who generally hate pets.

According to many residents, the stray animals do not cause any trouble for anyone. If you evict the stray animals, they are at risk of being run over by cars or dying of starvation because they do not know how to hunt for themselves.

This resolution is taking advantage of the animal loving residents and forcing them to pay for animals that they already voluntarily take care of. These animals are safe where they are and should not be evicted. Please reconsider this new resolution.
