Praise Strict Sentencing of Man Who Hanged His Dog

Target: Luzerne County Judge Thomas F. Burke, Jr.

Goal: Thank Pennsylvania judge for sentencing a man with animal abuse charges and prison time for the brutal murder of a family pet

A Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania resident was found guilty of animal cruelty and abuse after he hung his family’s pit bull over a retaining wall and left it there to die. Authorities say that Gino Saullo has been sentenced for animal abuse charges and because the judge found this case to be so horrible, Saullo was sentenced up to one year in jail.

According to WNEP News, authorities said that the three-year-old pit bull was found dead hanging off of a retaining wall and his choker neck chain was tied to a dumpster outside. In court, Saullo was given the opportunity to apologize to his family for killing their dog, but he stayed silent and only told Luzerne County Judge Thomas F. Burke, Jr. that he was sorry. Once Saullo is released from prison, he will not be allowed to have any unsupervised contact with animals.

After the sentencing, news reports said that police officers were surprised that Saullo’s sentencing was so heavy. The officers explained that most people get away with just a fine or a probation in most animal cruelty cases. Animal abuse takes place in different forms all over the world. Demanding a heavier sentence for cruel behavior toward animals may be the best deterrent for abusers. Too many animal abusers are let go on probation or a light monetary fine.

Please thank Luzerne County Judge Thomas F. Burke, Jr. for charging Saullo with animal cruelty charges and sentencing him up to 12 months in prison.

Dear Judge Burke,

Gino Saullo left his family’s dog hanging from a retaining wall to die. Saullo displayed cruel behavior when he did nothing to help his nephew’s dog, which was reportedly stuck hanging from a wall by its leash. Thank you for giving Saullo up to one year in jail with 30 community service hours for his heinous actions.

Animal abusers should always receive more than just a monetary fine or probation for their heartless crimes. By enforcing stricter punishments against animal abusers, you are showing other potential abusers that the law will not tolerate their cruel, violent behavior. Sadly, there will always be horrible crimes against animals, but when those animals’ abusers are caught, they need to be severely punished by the law. Thank you for doing your part to help deter animal abuse.
