Increase Tourism to Coffee Shop that Give Jobs to the Homeless

Barista 3

Target: Fort Collins Convention and Visitors Bureau

Goal: Promote coffee shop that offers jobs to the homeless on tourism website

The United States has a serious homelessness problem. Recent data shows that 1,750,000 people experience homelessness in America. Not only do homeless people not have permanent places to live, 75 percent of them are unemployed. How can they possibly pay rent and have a stable home if no one will hire them? Luckily, there is a coffee shop in Fort Collins, Colorado that is working to employ people who experience homelessness and also tackle the challenge of eradicating prejudice against homeless people. The tourism bureau of Fort Collins should be promoting this cafe to tourists.

The name of the coffee shop is Redtail Coffee and they plan to work with homeless individuals who take shelter at a new facility called Redtail Ponds. This housing project opens in 2015 and will help combat the homelessness of low-income and unemployed citizens. Unfortunately, many people living in the community resisted the idea of creating this new living facility. Seth and Kelly Kelley, the owners of Redtail Coffee, decided that they wanted to try and change the mindset of their neighbors as well as improve the lives of the community´s homeless.

Homelessness can be the result of many things and shunning a group of people who have no place to live only perpetuates the problem. When nearly one in four homeless people is a child, or when a woman finds herself on the street as a result of domestic violence, the community must do so much more than pass them on the street and drop a dime or two. Therefore, the city of Fort Collins should be promoting the Redtail Coffee in order to help the business and help the city’s homeless population. Tell Fort Collins to support this coffee shop and include it as a suggested location to get food and drinks on a visit to Fort Collins.

To the Fort Collins Convention and Visitors Bureau,

You may be aware that the issue of homelessness in the United States is a major problem that affects women, children, veterans, and people with mental illnesses. Fort Collins has a homeless population too and it is important that the whole community works to improve the situation.

A local coffee shop called Redtail Coffee has committed to employing homeless members of the community. The owners of the coffee shop are doing their part to help the community. I am asking you to do your part. The Fort Collins website for visitor information should be promoting this coffee shop. You have the opportunity to help out your community. I urge you to include Redtail Coffee as a promoted cafe on your site. Please help to combat the problem of homelessness in America.
