Target: Airbnb.com CEO Brian Chesky
Goal: Thank Airbnb for their generous relief efforts in creating a new disaster housing program.
After Hurricane Sandy in 2012, home rental website Airbnb.com offered up homes for free to over a thousand displaced families. Their satisfaction with the experience has lead them to launch a new program aimed to house displaced families in other natural disasters. Airbnb and associated participants deserve thanks and praise for this act of generosity.
When natural disaster strikes hundreds or thousands of family are typically left homeless and without any possessions. However, in 2012 after Hurricane Sandy destroyed much of the eastern coast of the United States, the site Airbnb.com gave its users renting out homes the option to rent them out to hurricane victims for free, many of which took advantage of the option. Due to the success of the program, Airbnb recently announced that it will be partnering with the cities of Portland, Oregon, and San Francisco, California for a disaster relief program. However, the company has it’s sites set much higher and is currently in the process of designing a world-wide disaster relief program.
This is an extremely selfless move and an act of extreme kindness and generosity by the site to give up profits to help those in need. Many people who become displaced by disasters, specifically in struggling countries, just end up homeless. This sort of initiative sets a positive example for similar sites and competitors to step up and create similar disaster relief programs.
Please sign the petition below to thank Airbnb.com for their selfless disaster relief efforts.
