Target: Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson
Goal: Hold police officer accountable for a brutal, racist murder and enact wide reforms within the police department to prevent these unnecessary deaths
Another innocent black teen has been murdered by a police officer. The filth of racism was thrown into the light with the Trayvon Martin case, but is further shown with the recent events that took place in Missouri. Once again, an innocent, unarmed black teen was shot numerous times and killed by a police officer following a brief and minor verbal confrontation between the two.
Dorin Johnson and Michael Brown were walking along the street in their suburb of Ferguson, Missouri when they were confronted by a police officer telling them to get on the sidewalk. After a short verbal engagement, the officer got out of their car and pulled out a gun. The boys raised their hands to show they did not have any weapons, and ran away from the threatening officer. The officer proceeded to shoot at them multiple times, hitting and killing Brown. Even after Brown had fallen, the officer reportedly continued to shoot him. The day after this brutal murder, protesters and concerned citizens from the neighborhood stood outside to show their horror at the slaying of this young man. The police, instead of allowing these peaceful protesters to continue to express their disgust and grief, brought in a vehicle resembling a tank and police dogs to scare the bystanders.
Tell the Ferguson Police Department to force the officer to apologize and pay the family the respect and compensation they deserve. Demand proper reformations to police corruption and racism within the department.
Dear Chief Jackson,
Your police department has come under fire for the recent scandal involving a police officer who murdered a young black man. This unarmed, innocent teenager was brutally shot and killed for no reason other than racial bias. Michael Brown and his friend had done nothing illegal or suspicious to arouse qualms about their activities. Instead of calmly talking to them and moving on, this officer felt compelled to take out their gun and shoot at the boys, killing Brown.
This incident is an obvious example of racist views and actions being circulated around police departments nationwide since the Trayvon Martin tragedy. Please ensure that this officer is brought to justice and that your department is reformed to wipe clean any racism that is lingering in your workplace.
