Target: Chris Christie, Governor of New Jersey
Goal: Applaud New Jersey state legislation which prohibits the import and sale of ivory and rhino horn in the state
Sadly, the cruel trade of ivory and rhino horn still continues globally despite many efforts to end it. However, the Governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie, recognizes this cruel trade as a major dilemma and has taken action against it. Although the state of New Jersey is not the first to pass ivory laws, its recent legislation is unlike any other ivory law in the country. The legislation, signed by Governor Christie, prohibits any import and sale of ivory and rhino horn in the state of New Jersey and closes any loopholes that had previously allowed for some ivory trade within the state.
The actions of Governor Christie and New Jersey’s state legislators will set a positive example for many other states and countries to follow. Many other agencies and organizations such as the Fish and Wildlife Services have also been working to eradicate this awful international trade from the United States once and for all. The trade of elephant tusks and rhino horns is both heartbreaking and devastating. These animals are threatened everyday by the risk of being hunted and killed by poachers. These poachers are only after the horns and tusks and often abandon the bodies of elephants and rhinos to rot.
By implementing this new law which completely bans the trade of ivory and rhino horn and closes all loopholes, the state of New Jersey has proven that it wants no part in this cruel trade whatsoever. Sign this petition and applaud Governor Chris Christie for effectively taking a stand against this cruel trade.
Dear Governor Chris Christie,
It has come to my attention that a legislation recently passed in the state of New Jersey completely bans any import and trade of ivory and rhino horn within the state. I would like to thank you for not only recognizing the impact of this cruel trade but also effectively taking a stand against it.
This trade has threatened the lives of elephants and rhinos for years as poachers continue to hunt these animals for their tusks and horns. By implementing this law which bans all trade of ivory and rhino horn and closes any loopholes which previously allowed some trade, I believe that you have set a positive example for many other states and countries to follow. Thank you again for taking a stand against this cruel trade.
