Stop Promoting Unsafe Animal Park

Goal: Stop promoting animal park that provides inadequate facilities and improper care to its animals

What family wants to take their children to a dangerous zoo that does not comply with facility and animal care laws? When families prepare to go on vacation and look for fun activities, they often use travel sites like TripAdvisor, Fodor’s Travel, or even USA Today’s Travel page. Unfortunately, the suggestions they receive don’t come along with warnings. All three of these sites are promoting an animal park owned and operated by a man who has repeatedly been written up by the the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for violations of inadequate facilities, lack of animal care, and even animal attacks.

Dr. Bhagavan Antle has been under observation by the USDA for decades. He has been written up time and time again with 68 recorded events by the USDA over the course of 28 years. Antle has shown complete disregard for laws that ensure proper care of animals. He provides animals with cages that are too small, contain sharp screws sticking out of walls, have exposed electrical wires, and are not structurally sound. Some of the documented events include the escape of tigers and primates from their enclosures. Furthermore, Antle does not provide proper veterinary care or maintain proper records for his animals.

It seems that the repeated citations by the USDA have done nothing to inspire Antle to comply with animal welfare and public safety laws. Meanwhile, his facilities are being promoted by travel websites and he continues to receive business and neglect the animals within his care. We need to raise these concerns with the travel websites that promote Antle’s facilities and urge them to terminate their support of his animal parks. Please sign this petition and help reduce the funds Antle receives.

Dear Mr. Kaufer,

Many solo travelers and families with children look to TripAdvisor for travel advice. Your website’s goal is to supply the best advice possible and suggest interesting locations for travelers to explore. Sadly, TripAdvisor promotes an animal park that is owned and operated by a man that does not comply with USDA laws concerning animal care and safety, nor does he follow laws created to ensure the safety of visitors to his facility.

The man in question, Bhagavan Antle, is the owner of Myrtle Beach Safari and T.I.G.E.R.S. Preservation Station. His facilities have been cited for improper enclosures, escaped tigers and primates, improper veterinary care, and an eight-page list of 68 other events spanning 28 years. The facilities run by this man are not family friendly. Antle has totally disregarded the safety of his visitors and continues to neglect the animals within his care.

I urge you to remove Myrtle Beach Safari and T.I.G.E.R.S. Preservation Station as suggested tourist attractions on your website. Please support the safety of travelers and the welfare of the animals under Antle’s care.

This is not right. It’s time to ban websites that promote animal parks that are not safe.
