Success: Important Diplomatic Appointments No Longer Blocked

Target: United States Senator Ted Cruz

Goal: Thank the Senator for lifting his hold on diplomatic nominees

United States diplomacy can continue apace now that Senator Ted Cruz has stopped preventing nominees from being confirmed to their positions. The senator had previously placed a hold on all nominees, demanding that questions about an air travel ban to Tel Aviv, Israel be answered before any diplomatic appointees would be allowed to take their positions. A previous petition on ForceChange had called for Senator Cruz to lift his hold and allow diplomacy to move forward.

Israel is currently in the middle of a war, and has come under attack from rockets. These rockets could cause great loss of life if one were to hit a commercial airliner, and that possibility is not remote. An Air Canada flight was forced into a holding pattern over Tel Aviv to avoid rocket fire. Senator Cruz had characterized a safety measure as a boycott, then made the situation worse by blocking all State Department nominees. These nominees included a U.S. ambassador to Russia who has now been confirmed to his new position.

By lifting his hold, Senator Cruz has enabled more diplomats to do their important work, and he has backed away from claims that a plan intended to save lives was somehow intended to punish Israel. By signing this petition, you will thank the senator for allowing diplomacy to continue.

Dear Senator Cruz,

Your recent decision to lift your hold on State Department nominees is a welcome development. It is important that diplomacy always be allowed to continue without hindrance, especially in these tumultuous times. Your act has enabled the U.S. to confirm a new ambassador to Russia, amongst other things.

As a member of Congress, you have the power to be a constructive force, and it is good that you have given up on being a stumbling-block on the road to diplomacy. Thank you for allowing these nominees to do their jobs.
