Target: U.S. Representative Michele Bachmann
Goal: End calls for the impeachment of cabinet members
Recently, talk of impeachment of the president of the United States has grown louder, as some conservatives demand that he be removed from office for various perceived crimes. Representative Michele Bachmann has a different plan in mind, however. According to Mother Jones, she has suggested that it would be easier to thwart the president’s agenda by removing important cabinet members, such as the Secretary of Homeland Security, instead. At the end of the day, however, such discussion is moot; impeachment of any administration official is very unlikely as long as liberals hold control of the Senate, and the fact remains that neither the president nor his cabinet are guilty of impeachable offenses. These attempts to bring about impeachment only distract from the necessary work that government officials should be doing to run our country.
Conservative outrage directed towards the president stems from a variety of sources. Those in favor of impeachment have mentioned the IRS, the attacks in Benghazi, and the Affordable Care Act as reasons to remove him from power. Unfortunately for them, none of these things are legitimate scandals or examples of presidential overreach. It would be very difficult for any of these accusers to come up with a solid reason for impeachment, including Rep. Bachmann; Mother Jones reports that she objects to the president’s refusal to deport some undocumented immigrants, which is not an impeachable offense. The final stumbling-block on the road to impeachment is that such an action must originate in the Senate, which is currently controlled by liberals, more or less aligned with the president and his cabinet.
Rep. Bachmann is a member of Congress and could therefore be engaged in far more productive measures. Her attempts to stymie the president’s goals are misguided and not likely to bear fruit. By signing this petition, you will urge the Congresswoman to stop calling for impeachment of the president’s cabinet.
Dear Representative Bachmann,
Your recent calls for the impeachment of various members of the president’s cabinet are short-sighted and unnecessary. His handling of the current immigration crisis is not grounds for impeachment, and you will have no better luck convincing the liberal-controlled Senate to impeach the Secretary of Homeland Security than you will convincing them to impeach the president himself.
As a member of Congress, you are in a position to enact the changes you wish to see through law. Removing cabinet members from power is an overreaction. I urge you to cease your calls for impeachment.
