Success: Community Prohibits Cruel Practice of Bowhunting

Target: The Mediterra Community Association, Inc.

Goal: Applaud decision to prohibit bowhunting in Naples, Florida

While bowhunting might seem like a cool and exciting way to hunt animals, it is actually one of the most painful forms of hunting. Animals are not killed immediately and must suffer from the pain of the attack while they bleed to death slowly. There is no definite way to kill a deer with one arrow, and for every deer that is killed hunters must take an average of fourteen shots. This is unnecessary suffering for the preyed-upon deer.

Thankfully, The Mediterra Community Association, Inc. in Naples, Florida responded to public outcry against their proposal to allow bowhunting of deer on their property. Two earlier ForceChange petition call for an end to bowhunting deer. One petition specifically targets a district in Florida, and the other targets the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Associations like The Mediterra Community Association, Inc. deserve to be applauded when they make moral decisions without governmental regulations. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service still needs to hear that the 98.6% of American citizens who do not hold bowhunting licenses are against the practice of bowhunting. But in the meantime, it is important to give credit where credit is due.

For every deer that is eventually killed by a bowhunter, another deer is severely injured and left vulnerable to predators, often suffering, and on its way to death. Bowhunting is the second cruelest way of hunting animals, next to trapping, and it inflicts unnecessary suffering on both the animal that is killed and the others that get away. The Mediterra Community Association, Inc. deserves appreciation for its decision to prohibit bowhunting. Let the association know that you appreciate their anti-bowhunting policy.

Dear Mediterra Community Association, Inc.,

The Mediterra Community Association, Inc. has made a great decision to prohibit bowhunting of deer on its property. Bowhunting is one of the most cruel forms of hunting and inflicts undue suffering on the hunted deer. For every deer that is dragged away by a hunter, another deer is left helpless and suffering in the woods. Bowhunting is particularly terrible because there is no way to kill a deer with one shot. Therefore, hunters must take an average of fourteen shots to kill one deer. The killing of deer in this way only serves to give pleasure to people who enjoy watching animals suffer.

Thank you for your work against the cruel and unnecessary killing of animals. I strongly support your anti-bowhunting policy.
