Target: Elon Musk, CEO, Tesla Motors
Goal: Thank Tesla for promoting environmental stewardship by releasing electric vehicle patents to the public
With more carbon entering the atmosphere every day, the threat of global warming is also becoming more prominent. Tesla, one of the world’s most innovative car companies, has sought to address this problem in a variety of ways.
According to an article in Venture Beat, Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, made the incredible decision to allow any other auto company to adopt Tesla’s patent portfolio without any fear of being sued. Swallowing his pride and taking the risk of less profits for his own company, Musk made this decision because he knew that his own company couldn’t outrun carbon in the race against time all alone. At the core of Tesla exists not greed, but environmental stewardship.
This decision has resulted not in a decrease in profits, but in more respect and trust from the shareholders. With that being said, Tesla has taken things one step further and has recently announced that a deal has been made with the Japanese company, Panasonic, which will result in the world’s first “gigafactory,” or battery factory, being built in the United States, Tesla’s home base.
By the year 2020, over 500,000 electronic vehicles (EVs) could have their batteries produced by Tesla’s own factory in the states. This is truly remarkable because this will help Musk get that much closer to his goal of making the proposed Blue Star project a reality. The project is a design for low-cost electronic automobiles that can be marketed to more people. If actualized, Tesla cars could become one of the legitimate solutions to the carbon problem. Help us thank Tesla for putting the health of our planet before profit by signing the petition below.
Dear Mr. Musk,
Thank you for placing profit margins second to the growing carbon problem. Global warming has largely been caused by industrialization and the increase of people and their multiple cars to this world, so it is that much more important for automobile companies like yourselves to not only change their products, but also the way they conduct business.
By allowing any other automaker to use your patented portfolio as well as securing a million-dollar deal with Panasonic that will allow you to make batteries in your home country, you are truly embodying the right kind of attitude, which can result both in profit as well as potentially create a healthier future for our planet.
Good luck with choosing where to place the gigafactory and with all future endeavors.
