Target: CEO of Target Brian Cornell
Goal: Get Target to stop funding anti-GMO labeling initiatives
Target is a part of the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) which also includes major corporations like Starbucks, Pepsi, Coca-Cola, General Mills, Kellog, and Mars, to name a few. This organization has donated more than 70 million dollars to defeat GMO labeling initiatives. Target should end its membership with the GMA and commit to selling healthy food products to its customers.
Last year, the GMA was one of the biggest contributors to defeating California’s mandatory GMO labeling bill. The GMA is now the biggest contributor to the bill in Washington which would require the same thing. The American people must band together to defeat this conglomeration of huge corporations because we have the right to know what is in our food. A recent New York Times poll states that 93 percent of Americans support GMO labeling. Major food corporations oppose this because they would lose money if the truth about their harmful foods was exposed.
Please urge Target to stop supporting anti-GMO labeling initiatives and start selling healthy foods that customers know the ingredients to.
Dear Brian Cornell,
You claim that Target is committed to sustainability and that shopping at Target allows your corporation to help people and the earth. This is in direct contrast to your actions regarding the anti-GMO labeling bills that you helped defeat in California and Washington.
Consumers have the right to know what they are putting into their bodies, wouldn’t you agree? Target’s membership in the Grocery Manufacturers Association is disappointing. This organization goes against the rights of the American people. Science shows that GMOs are harmful to people and the earth, the same things Target is supposedly helping.
Please reconsider your membership in the GMA and stop funding anti-GMO labeling initiatives.
