Applaud Charges Against Animal Abuser

Target: Cyrus R. Vance, Jr, District Attorney of New York County

Goal: Praise arrest and trial of man who brutally kicked a stray cat

A man arrested for punting a cat recently made his first court appearance, at which district prosecutors announced that they intend to press charges. Twenty-two-year-old Andre Robinson will stand trial for animal cruelty after posting a video to his Facebook page of luring a stray cat toward himself before kicking it high into the air. He and his friends are then seen laughing maniacally as the cat, now named King, lay momentarily stunned and unable to move.

After Mr. Robinson’s post went viral, it was brought to the attention of local police and district prosecutors, who promptly took him into custody and charged him with misdemeanor animal cruelty. Prosecutors are now taking the case quite seriously, in part due to the hundreds of emails and telephone calls they received from outraged members of the public.  If convicted, the Brooklyn resident could spend up to one year in prison.

Following the incident, the cat was taken to a local ASPCA animal hospital where it was treated for its injuries. King recovered quickly and now lives happily in Manhattan with an adoptive family.

It is imperative to meet random acts of animal cruelty with justice in order to deter similar incidents in the future. Now that the case is going to trial, the offender will face an appropriate punishment for his actions. Your signature will applaud the New York District Attorney’s Office for the tough stance they have taken against this callous crime.
