Target: Arnnon Geshuri, Human Resources Vice President at Tesla Motors
Goal: Praise efforts to become an even more veteran-friendly company
For veterans of active duty, returning to life as usual after deployment can be impossible, and for many the biggest struggle can be finding regular employment that makes use of their skills. Veterans unfortunately experience a higher unemployment rate than their non-veteran counterparts in the United States. However, one forward-thinking car company, Tesla Motors, is getting attention for the way it is welcoming veterans with open arms. Tesla is famous for pushing the auto industry forward by leaps and bounds, and in its newest bout of expansions it will be looking to add even more veterans to its workforce of 6,000, which already includes around 300 vets.
The company is eager to put veterans’ military skills, including mechanical know-how and team-building focus, to work. It even makes arrangements for active duty employees so that they don’t have to sacrifice their jobs when they are called to serve. Tesla also holds monthly meetings for its veteran employees to get together and make suggestions for moving the company forward. In a comment to San Jose Mercury News, vice president of production Greg Reichow explained that hiring veterans is just one part of the company’s game-changing philosophy: “At Tesla we’re not just building cars. We’re trying to transform transportation.” He added that veterans “know how to lead teams, focus teams and function on teams, and they have incredible integrity and discipline.” Hiring veterans is clearly a win-win situation for companies in technological and mechanical industries. It should not be a revolutionary idea, but Tesla has made a revolutionary commitment to vets to demonstrate that their skills absolutely can be applied to civilian jobs.
By signing this petition, you are thanking Tesla Motors for pursuing an innovative policy of hiring more veterans and making their transition to civilian life easier.
Dear Vice President Geshuri,
I am overjoyed to hear of Tesla’s intention to add even more veterans to its employment base. Tesla is proving to be a leader among American companies in hiring veterans and providing programs for its veteran employees. Veterans are all too often left without jobs or opportunities when they return from active duty, and having a job that uses their military skills and discipline can be invaluable to their transition to civilian life. There is no better way to thank veterans for their service than by empowering them to support themselves and their families with a dignified job that respects their skills.
Thank you for recognizing the specific skills and talents that make veterans the perfect employees in many sectors of the auto industry and other technology-based industries. Thank you for being a leader among American companies in your multifaceted approach to hiring veterans and meeting their needs. I hope that other companies soon follow your example, and proudly commit to hiring and supporting more veterans.
