Target: House Speaker John Boehner
Goal: Tell House Republicans to drop their outrageous lawsuit against Obama
In what can only be described as a publicity stunt, House Republicans are taking steps to bring a lawsuit against President Obama. The suit is intended to prevent Obama from overstepping his authority, which they believe he has used to make too many changes to the Affordable Care Act. Tell House Republicans to use their time before the August recess to initiative measures that will improve the lives of American citizens instead of wasting time, energy, and taxpayer dollars on this outrageous and ill-formed lawsuit.
The House voted earlier this week to authorize Speaker John Boehner to move ahead with the lawsuit that they plan to file before their August recess. The most ironic part? John Boehner has had plans to sue Obama for months, but has only recently devised a reason to sue him – for making too many changes to Obamacare, which House Republicans have tried to repeal over 50 times, once again wasting time and resources.
It’s increasingly clear why Obama feels the need to use executive action to get anything accomplished. Recent Congress sessions have been among the least productive in recent U.S. history with representatives introducing fewer bills and an increasingly centralized structure restricting the action and authority of smaller committees. It’s clear that House Republicans are more invested in stopping the president from accomplishing anything than in taking any action of their own.
Although Tea Partyers and a slight majority of Republicans indorse suing and even impeaching Obama, the vast majority of Americans oppose both extreme measures. Sadly, it would be a first if House Republicans actually considered the opinion of the American people and not just their own faulty logic when creating legislation.
Urge Speaker Boehner to get buckle down and address issues of importance to the American public such as healthcare, education, social services, unemployment, and stagnant wages instead of going forward with this frivolous publicity stunt designed to appease the extremist right.
Dear Speaker Boehner,
Enough with the games, the rhetoric, and the bitterness. Stop trying to wage your personal war against President Obama on the national stage funded by the taxpayer’s dollar. The Republican’s most recent attempt at a publicity stunt is outrageous and unfounded. I stand with the majority of the American public when I urge you to drop your lawsuit against President Obama, and get back to doing the work that you were elected to do.
It’s high time for House Republicans to stop complaining about the president and to start working to improve the lives of the average American, most of which are still suffering from the lingering effects of the recession. Cross party lines, learn to compromise, and accept that the world is changing in unprecedented ways.
While the average American is struggling to make ends meet, faced with increasing costs and stagnant wages, House Republicans are more invested in their own political power than improving lives. I implore you to realign your priorities with those of the electorate and end this insane move before it ends in disaster.
