Target: Mary Rader, Dennis and Deana Beighley
Goal: Denounce guardians for starving boy within an inch of his life
A 7-year-old boy was sent to the hospital after his family starved and beat him to within an inch of his life. He arrived at the hospital weighing 25 pounds and medical experts said that if he were to have continued in his present condition, he would have suffered a major cardiac accident that he wouldn’t be able to recover from. The unidentified boy was singled out for the mistreatment, as his other siblings didn’t suffer as severely.
The boy’s mother Mary Rader, alongside his grandparents Dennis and Deana Beighley, turned themselves in to the Mercer County District Attorney’s office. They are charged with aggravated assault, unlawful restraint of a minor, false imprisonment, endangering the welfare of a child, and conspiracy. They have all been released on bond and will be awaiting trial on July 30, 2014. It was due to welfare authorities noticing the condition of the child – who looked like a human skeleton – that the boy was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The boy lived with his mother and grandparents, but also with his two sisters, ages four and eleven, and a nine-year-old brother. While his brother was malnourished, the boy’s sisters seemed healthy. The boy was home schooled, and would only be let out of the house to go onto the porch, where he ate bugs to sate his hunger. His family only gave him small portions of tun and eggs to eat and the boy was also beaten with a belt for sneaking peanut butter and bread to eat.
He was admitted to the hospital in June, 2014, and he has since then gained twenty pounds. The rest of his siblings have been placed with child welfare authorities.
The boy’s guardians have mistreated this poor child with no probable cause. It has no doubt left him scarred and unwilling to trust people. The guardians should be denounced for their actions, as no child should be starved within an inch of their life.
Dear Mary Rader, Dennis and Deana Beighley,
Recently your son and grandson was admitted to a hospital because of his starved condition. At seven years old, he weighed twenty-five pounds, leaving him with a grotesque figure. Authorities described him as a walking human skeleton. This boy could have suffered from cardiac arrest, and yet you still allowed him to starve within proximity of his siblings. I find this treatment to be shocking and infuriating.
I am writing to denounce you on your actions. No person should ever be treated this way, especially a child. This boy has done nothing wrong and it is not ethical for any of you to punish him for eating. All humans have the right to food and drink, and you’ve denied him this for a very long time.
