Target: Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerburg
Goal: Delete the “I Hate Dogs – The Only Good Dog is a Dead Dog” page from Facebook that glorifies dog abuse and violence towards them
A Facebook page called, “I Hate Dogs – The Only Good Dog is a Dead Dog” actively glorifies the abuse of animals and clearly violates the Community Standards of the website, but remains online. The page’s “About” section says, “For all those people who are nerved from dog worshipping everywhere. We don’t support animal abuse, just share a common thought.” Contrary to this sentiment, there are pictures on the page depicting dogs in pain and other acts of abuse for visitors’ entertainment. The title of the page is also contradictory to the page’s supposed stance on animal abuse, but plenty of hate speech on the page’s timeline is evidence enough. There is a video on the page of a soldier throwing a young puppy over the edge of a cliff and a link to another website that shares information on “100 Ways to Kill a Dog.” The page owner also commented, “This one is funny as hell!” on a video titled “Dog killed by car on public place.”
According to Martha L., who attempted to report “I Hate Dogs” to Facebook and was denied, the page owner is supposedly named John Erlenkötter, but it is most likely a pseudonym and not the owner’s real name. In response to her report, Facebook has stated, “Thank you for taking the time to report something that you feel may violate our Community Standards. Reports like yours are an important part of making Facebook a safe and welcoming environment. We reviewed the Page you reported for containing credible threat of violence and found that it doesn’t violate our Community Standards.” The response is shocking, since the graphic images and hate speech on the page clearly violate Facebook’s community guidelines.
Demand that Facebook delete this abusive page by signing this petition.
Dear Mark Zuckerburg,
Dogs are a beloved part of many families around the country and the world. Although not everyone may love dogs, there is no reason for anyone to create a page that promotes hatred and violence towards these animals. It is irresponsible and inhumane for you to continue to allow this page to garner views and support on Facebook. The page contains graphic content and malice and should be taken down immediately.
You need to adhere to your own website’s guidelines and remove this page. You also need to ensure that other hateful pages that promote dog and animal abuse are never allowed on your site again.
