Target: President of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan
Goal: Stop the movement of terrorist group Boko Haram from harming and killing citizens
In the first half of 2014, terrorist group Boko Haram killed 2,053 Nigerian citizens in 95 different attacks. Furthermore, this group was responsible for the abduction of 200 Nigerian girls, who were whisked away from their dorms in the middle of the night. These terrorist actions must stop. The Nigerian government must do more to stop these attacks and ensure that their people will remain safe and secure.
Boko Haram’s reign of terror has spread to over 70 different towns and villages in northeastern Nigeria. Many of these attacks include bomb blasts and suicide bombings, which took place in a brothel, a marketplace, a technical college, and during soccer matches. Their attacks have made the citizens extremely insecure about the government and their safety. These actions are considered crimes against humanity and they must be stopped immediately.
In their report, Human Rights Watch concluded that Boko Haram purposefully targets civilian people. Nurses, policemen, villagers, hospital workers, and other civilians were interviewed to give their testimony, and very rarely did the terrorist group go after military personnel. The group wants to impose Shari law, a religious law that is highly criticized for human rights violations, on the land, and as their attacks are increasing, the government needs to ensure security and safety for the people. Urge the Nigerian president to bulk up his forces and fight against this terrorist group who has long plagued its people.
Dear President Goodluck Jonathan,
In early 2014, 219 schoolgirls were abducted from their dormitories in the middle of the night. These girls were taking their finals in the hopes of bettering themselves. They wanted to become lawyers, teachers, and doctors, but their dreams were swept away because of terrorist group Boko Haram. This group has killed over two thousand people in the first half of 2014. This is a staggering number of people and more will continue to die if your government does nothing. Their attacks are increasing in frequency and severity, and they are deliberately targeting civilians who have no means of protecting themselves.
I urge you to do something drastic. Your people need security and safety, and the government needs to provide this. Your people are getting afraid and angry at this violence, and they cannot live a normal life because of this. Bulk up your army, craft more laws, give more speeches, do everything in your power to keep morale up and security high.
