Target: Police and Crime Commissioner Ron Hogg
Goal: Applaud the efforts of a teacher and policemen for making a boy’s prom special
Recently, a school teacher sent a letter to the town police force asking to provide a special escort for a 15-year-old amputee to his prom. The policemen responded and gave the high schooler a ride he would never forget.
Fifteen-year-old Kieran Maxwell had dreamed of becoming a police officer. However, ever since he had to have an amputation above his left knee three years ago due to a rare childhood cancer that he was diagnosed with, his dream of becoming an officer was shattered. To give Kieran support, one of his high school teachers sent the local police force a letter asking to provide Kieran with a surprise ride to prom in a police car. The police force dispatched their off-duty officers and arrived at Kieran’s house with three police cars and two motorcycle outriders.
This police car prom escort came as a complete surprise to Kieran. According to the Mirror magazine, Kieran stated, “The escort was the best part of the day. It’s something I will always remember.”
Prom is a time for making lasting memories for most high school kids. Thanks to the thoughtful actions of a high school teacher and a local police squad, one lucky high school boy’s prom night was made especially memorable. Applaud the efforts of the high school teacher and Police and Crime Commissioner Ron Hogg for not only making Kieran’s night more memorable, but also for encouraging him in his future aspirations.
Dear Commissioner Hogg,
Prom is a special time for high school students, and prom memories are made to last a lifetime. Reading about how you had made Kieran Maxwell’s prom experience especially phenomenal was heartening. Particularly given how Kieran feels that his chances of becoming a police officer were dashed when he had part of his left leg amputated, this act of kindness really means a lot.
Thank you again for taking your time while off duty to make a high school kid’s prom night memorable. Please keep up with the great work.
