Don’t Defund Planned Parenthood’s Breast Cancer Prevention Work

Target: Nancy Goodman Brinker, founder and CEO of Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Goal: To tell Susan G. Komen for the Cure that their contributions to Planned Parenthood were needed and appreciated, and to convince them to keep funding Planned Parenthood.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a leading breast cancer foundation, had been funding Planned Parenthood for five years. Most of the funds reportedly went to breast exams. However, this week, the organization announced that they will no longer be funding Planned Parenthood.

Komen said that it would discontinue funding because they have adopted new rules that prevent them from funding organizations that are under congressional investigation. Planned Parenthood has had their funding under investigation since Fall 2011. However, they were also under pressure from Life Decisions International, a pro-life group who has been “exposing” those who fund Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood reports that the money from Susan G. Komen allowed health centers to provide almost 170,000 breast exams and over 6,400 referrals for mammograms to women who would be otherwise unable to afford them. These services may have saved multiple lives, and Susan G. Komen’s funding is absolutely essential for saving more lives in the future. Sign this petition to ask Susan G. Komen for the Cure to continue funding Planned Parenthood.

Dear Nancy Goodman Brinker,

We are writing to urge you to reconsider your position on defunding Planned Parenthood. With your help, Planned Parenthood provided breast exams to thousands of women, and saved many lives, which is in line with your organization’s goals.

Although you have been under pressure by pro-life organizations, those who are informed on the situation understand that your money went to breast cancer preventative services.

We hope that you will decide to consider providing this invaluable service to Planned Parenthood and those who use its services.

It’s a shame and I will never donate to Susan G Koman ever again!!

  2. SGK is there to help women, not be manipulated by politicians. It’s a shame a lot of people are not going to support their cause any longer. Myself included. SHAME on you!

  3. Diane Gregg says:

Wow, it looks like people who read this website are so committed to crocodiles, alligators, lemurs and other animals. That’s great, but where is the love for a little human fighting to develop and be born in it’s mother’s womb? There is no such thing as an unwanted baby. There are thousands of adoptive parents waiting in line dreaming of holding a baby in their arms. All the biological mother has to do is have the child that she and her partner formed by their own willful act. The pregnant mother can even have her upkeep and the pregnancy paid for by prospective parents. Come on people, it’s your own little boys and girls. Do you really want to turn them over to a mass murderer instead of giving them the gift of life?
