Target: Sir Sean Connery
Goal: Praise actor Sir Sean Connery to stop construction of mansion on the Bahamas
Fashion billionaire Peter Nygard is making plans to construct a mansion in the Bahamas, but activists are crying foul. Concerned about the impact it will have on the natural coastline, environmentalists launched the Save the Bays campaign, and actor Sean Connery has joined the fight. He should be praised for his contribution and concern for the environment.
The Bahamas are not just famous for their pristine beaches and warm climate, but were the sets for films Jaws and the James Bond movies. The group, alongside Sean Connery, has filed a lawsuit against Peter Nygard, asking the Bahamas government to conduct a judicial review of the mansion. Nygard intends to build in Nassau, the northern peninsula of the islands. Sean Connery told the Observer, “Anything that disturbs the natural habitat of the bay has to be examined. They have to sort it out and not tamper with the natural coastline.”
Connery has called the Bahamas his home since the 1990s, and many of its residents and campaigners believe that Nygard’s development plans are defective. The lawsuit claims that damage will be inflicted on the Clifton Bay Area, where Jaws was filmed. Nygard’s plans are to double his three acre property by laying down sand and concrete in the water. Nygard states that his plans will not do any environmental harm and believes that the campaign was started by his rival and neighbor, Louis Bacon. While it is true that Save the Bays was largely funded by him, their focus has been on the environmental impact.
Our beaches should be taken care of, and laying down sand and concrete can disrupt the natural ecosystems in this place. It requires people who are diligent and care about our planet to stop the destruction of our environment. Sign this petition to praise actor Sean Connery for adding his voice to the fight.
Dear Sean Connery,
In the Bahamas, fashion billionaire Peter Nygard is making plans to build a mansion. It will double his three acre property and possibly damage the environment in the area. You and those from the Save the Bays campaign believe that such an endeavor will hurt the natural coastline and are urging the Bahamas government to conduct a judicial review to ensure that the environment is not harmed during the construction.
I am writing to praise you for your actions to save and preserve the environment. While I understand that the campaign has been largely funded by Nygard’s rival, it is still crucial that a judicial review be conducted in case environmental damage does occur. Thank you for supporting this cause and I hope this issue will be resolved for the benefit of the Bahamas.
