Target: Rachael Ray
Goal: Show your appreciation for the Food Network star chef and television host’s campaign to urge people to adopt cats
With the often poor conditions in animal shelters, a cat cannot always be in good shape to be adopted. Collaborating with “One Picture Saves a Life,” Rachael Ray is devoting herself to grooming cats in order to increase adoptions across the country in a campaign called “Shelter Cats are Beautiful.” With a photo being one if not the most important factor for a cat to become part of a family, Ray has enlisted the help of a professional photographer and a professional groomer.
Ray explains that although she does not have any cats, she does have a pit bull, whom she thinks is misunderstood because of her breed. Since people often judge animals and potential pets on looks, Ray plans to put cats’ best paws forward because she believes that animals are what make people human, encouraging people to be more loyal, empathetic, and compassionate.
Further inspiration for Ray came from her mother, whose fifteen rescue cats gave Ray the idea to start her own line of cat food, Nutrish. Using her mother’s cats as taste testers, Ray developed both delicious and healthy food for cats that have many of the same ingredients contained in her recipes for humans, without any ingredient that could be harmful to an animal. Nutrish contributes $6.5 million to benefit animals. A quarter of the donations will go into constructing a cage-free adoption center.
Starting in New York at the North Shore Animal League’s shelter, Ray will tour a total of sixteen cities with a mobile adoption center. Please applaud Ray on her efforts to encourage people to humanely treat cats.
Dear Rachael Ray,
Thank you so much for your “Shelter Cats are Beautiful” campaign. With many shelters being underfunded, it is difficult sometimes to give animals adequate food let alone have them looking their best, and as such, a cat may struggle finding a home. Considering food, shelter, and appearance for adoptions in your campaign are sure to make it a success.
I wish you the best. Please continue to care for these lovable animals that truly make people better human beings. Animals are more similar to human beings than they seem. Hopefully, your next endeavor can be a campaign for dogs, and then other animals after that. Keep up the good work.
