Denounce Couple for Selling Children

Target: A Hui and A Mei

Goal: Denounce couple for selling their two young sons to human traffickers to fuel their gaming addiction

Free to play games generate income through micro transactions, where players purchase in-game items with real life money. One Chinese couple took this transaction too far when they sold their two baby sons to human traffickers in exchange for money, which they then used to purchase in-game items. Human trafficking is illegal in China, and the couple should be denounced for selling their own flesh and blood into this trade.

Couple A Hui and A Mei (not their full names) are a young unmarried couple in China, and they revealed in a television interview with Guangdong TV that their first child was not planned. The woman, A Mei, stated that A Hui had no intention of supporting the child, so instead of taking care of him, they sold their baby to human traffickers in Fujian.

Then A Mei got pregnant with her second child. She stated that since A Hui “likes buying items in online games, and he likes staying out all night at internet cafes,” they wouldn’t have the funds to take care of the child. So they sold him too, using the money to fuel A Hui’s gaming addiction.

Child trafficking is a massive problem in China, where thousands of people are affected each year. The children are sold to new parents, street gangs, street peddlers, and even to orphanages where they are adopted out overseas. Those who are caught participating in this trade are often executed. It was thanks to A Hui’s father that the couple was caught. He was aware of the situation and reported it to the police. Both have been sentenced to the crime of selling children and are awaiting trial.

It is appalling that providing for a gaming addiction is more valuable than a human life. Denounce the couple for their lack of compassion toward their own young children.

Dear A Hui and A Mei,

Media outlets around the world are sharing your shocking story of selling both of your sons to fuel A Hui’s gaming addiction. This act is not only vile, but shows the lack of compassion you have toward human beings. Human trafficking is one of the most profitable and illegal trades in the world, and yet you chose to sell your own children to buy virtual items.

I am writing this letter to denounce you for your actions. While your sons are children now, they will no doubt have a hard life growing up thanks to the both of you. Your sons could have been placed for adoption, but instead you decided to sell them. This is deeply disturbing and I hope the both of you are punished to the full extent of the law.
