Target: President of China, Xi Jinping
Goal: Stop the deportation of North Korean refugees back into their country where they face harsh punishments
North Korea is known for its harsh and brutal treatment of its citizens, subjecting them to starvation, torture, and sometimes death. Those that are lucky escape the nation in the hopes of finding salvation and freedom, but China often sends North Korean refuges back to their country. Once home, refugees face some of the worst punishment. Join the United Nations in urging China to stop the deportation of North Korean refugees.
The U.N. has found that North Korea routinely incarcerates and punishes citizens that leave the country. Unfortunately, because of China’s alliance with North Korea, China will return refugees caught fleeing the nation. In doing so, these refugees are subjected to harsh treatment. China argues that these people are economic migrants, not refugees, however, the U.N. disagrees.
With an oppressive government willing to punish its citizens for petty crimes, and regular send them to concentration camps, the U.N. deems North Korea’s actions akin to Nazi Germany. The organization accuses North Korea of crimes against humanity, and while the International Criminal Court could bring the country to trial, North Korea has stated that it would not show up in court. Because of these circumstances, the U.N. is trying to curb the severity of punishments on North Korean citizens by imploring China to cease the deportation of refugees. Urge the Chinese president to be empathetic, and aid the refugees instead of returning them to a cruel, oppressive country.
Dear President Xi Jinping,
Recently, the United Nations has deemed North Korea’s treatment of its people akin to Nazi Germany. Its citizens are oppressed, starved, tortured, and killed for ridiculous crimes. North Korea has been accused of crimes against humanity, but has refused to be taken to court for this matter. The U.N. is now asking your country to stop deporting refugees that escape North Korea, as they will receive severe punishments for illegally leaving the oppressive country.
I urge you to be empathetic and stop sending these refugees away. Your country claims these people to be economic migrants, but the U.N. does not agree. Evidence and testimony from many North Korean citizens have depicted a dark and grim picture of their homeland. Please stop deporting North Korean refugees, as these human beings desperately need our help.
