Target: Fox & Friends Host, Steve Doocy
Goal: Denounce the sexist Fox News morning segment and ask it to stop promoting chauvinistic behavior
Fox News has, once again, forgotten that women are humans who deserve respect and equality. In one of its latest morning segments, Fox News began a feature for “husband appreciation,” claiming that men have become “doormats.” The guest also bashed feminists, stating that feminist women are trying to get all the attention, and wives are acting like “princesses.” The news hosts and guest all agreed that women should be looking for husbands during college instead of focusing on their future careers. Criticize Fox News for airing such ludicrous and incredibly sexist statements.
The guest on this Fox News segment, Susan Patton, has previously written anti-feminist books, describing how women in college should focus solely on their appearance and trying to find a husband. Patton also stated that all feminists are man-haters who have no respect for the opposite sex.
By bringing this woman onto the show, Fox News is reinforcing its image as an anti-feminist, sexist news company aiming to degrade women’s rights and bolster the incorrect beliefs about feminism being anti-men. The news segment also focused on how women who are more than 30 years old would not be able to find a husband. This is sexist and extremely disrespectful to all single, child-free women. Denounce this latest “news” segment for reinforcing gross gender stereotypes and degrading women and feminists.
Dear Steve Doocy,
I recently heard about your news segment with Susan Patton. By having her appear on your show to discuss “husband appreciation” in the most women-degrading terms, you have proven that Fox News is anti-women and anti-feminist. Patton is notoriously anti-feminist, and your support of her is an obvious example of your agenda to thwart women’s rights.
Patton directly attacked women when she referred to all wives as “princesses” who should be constantly trying to appease their husbands. You also neglected to recognize that husbands may be married to other husbands and wives may be married to their wives. No relationship should revolve one person serving the needs of his or her partner without any reciprocation.
I urge you to never again ask Susan Patton, or any other ardent anti-feminist, to appear on your show. I also urge you to cease airing segments that demonize feminists, who are simply working for equal rights for women. You should show support for women’s rights activists and encourage healthy relationships between any gender. Please end your sexist “news” columns and stop denigrating women.
