Applaud Campaign to Increase Donations for Cat Rescue Groups

Goal: Praise Purina’s social media campaign to give food to cat rescue groups in the United States

Providing quality food as well as a home for felines is a constant struggle for many rescue groups, but pet food producer Purina has come up with a creative way to make this happen. In turn for pictures, videos, or stories from cat owners capturing their feline friend, Purina Pro Plan’s #MyGreatCat campaign strives to reach 50,000 pounds of food for rescue groups. Each image, video clip, or story answering the question, “What’s so great about a cat?,” with the hashtag #MyGreatCat produces a one pound donation of food from Purina. The food will then be distributed by Rally to the Rescue, an organization that supports hundreds of smaller rescue groups and has already saved 600,000 pets in just under the past decade.

The social media campaign is taking place between June and August of 2014. So far, cat photos promoting the campaign have been displayed in a San Francisco gallery, and photos collected from cat owners from social media will soon be displayed as well to promote cats themselves. Although the most popular pet in the world, cats still can be the underdog in getting enough food and finding a permanent home. Employing the help of photographer Jessica Trinh, who normally only features dogs, Purina puts the spotlight on cats, overcoming the misconception that cats are unwilling to play and to love their owner.

Additionally, it inspires the public to be more understanding and to be more helpful toward cats. Featuring art work in a San Francisco gallery is also a commendable way to raise awareness for cat rescue groups.

Please continue your campaign to donate food to deserving cat rescue groups throughout the United States, ensuring that their work does not go unnoticed, and helping to find homes for these animals that are so deserving of love. Cats are, after all, the world’s most popular pet.
