Target: Torsten Albig, Prime Minister, Schleswig-Holstein
Goal: Praise commitment to phasing out fossil fuel energy from German state
We are a world that has become dependent on fossil fuels. Coal, petroleum, and natural gas have all been used to excess, and over the recent years it has become apparent that these wells will run dry. Thus, many nations have made it a priority to invest money into finding alternative energy sources that can not be used up and will make a positive impact on the planet. These include water power, solar power, wind power, and more.
Many places have been successful. According to an article in Inhabitat, three years ago a Bavarian village, Wildpoldsried, was able to not only generate over 300 percent of its electricity from “clean” sources, but also turn over a nice profit (over 5 million US dollars) by selling it to the national grid.
Even more exciting, recently a windy state in Northern Germany, Schleswig-Holstein, beat three solar energy records within two weeks. During the day, the state’s residents generate 74 percent of their electricity from wind power and other green energy sources. By the end of this year, they expect to generate 100 percent of their electricity from these sources. Eventually, Schleswig-Holstein has an ultimate goal of catching up to Wildpoldsried and generating 300 percent of electricity from green energy.
This is a huge breakthrough for the huge industrial countries. Although Schleswig-Holstein is just one of sixteen German states, by showing the rest of Germany as well as the rest of the world that it can be done successfully, Schleswig-Holstein has begun to hopefully start a chain reaction that will benefit us all. Our sources of fossil fuels get closer with each passing day to being gone for good, so it is time for us all to hop on the bandwagon with Wildpoldsried and Schleswig-Holstein. Help us spread the word by signing the petition below, thanking Schleswig-Holstein’s Prime Minister for his commitment to green energy.
Dear Prime Minister Albig,
The petition letter is being written to commend your excellent effort in staying committed to adopting green energy full time. Dependency on fossil fuels is a serious problem and is completely inefficient when thinking about future generations.
Making it to 100 percent electricity generated from clean energy sources is quite the accomplishment. However, with recent articles published in sources such as the Wall Street Journal, suggest that making it to your ultimate goal of 300 percent will be a challenge. For example, if a higher surcharge on green energy is pushed through, more and more people and companies will try to avoid paying the fee.
This is just one of many challenges your state and the rest of Germany will have to face, but hopefully this petition’s words of support will help encourage you to stand strong against opposition.
