Encourage Congress to Ban Animal Testing

Target: California Senator Marty Block and California legislators

Goal: Thank California legislators for passing the Cruelty Free Cosmetics Resolution, which calls on Congress to ban cosmetics animal testing

Thanks to California, the United States is one step closer to joining countries such as the European Union, Norway, Israel, and India in banning cosmetics animal testing. California legislators have recently passed a Senate Joint Resolution that calls on the US Congress to ban animal cosmetics testing as well as establish non-animal alternative testing.

According to the Huffington Post, “the resolution asks the nation to do what California did 13 years ago — require manufactures and contract testing facilities to use scientifically valid non-animal tests to prove product safety before resorting to animal tests.” The resolution also aims to attack cosmetics that have been animal tested by urging the US to set deadlines that will prohibit marketing them completely. Sponsored by Cruelty Free International and supported by California Senator Block, this is not the first attempt of a proposal for legislation to be passed concerning cruelty free testing. Earlier in the year, Senator Jim Moran introduced the Humane Cosmetics Act, which aims to ban animal testing by prohibiting entities from selling products that have been animal tested. According to the Huffington Post, the act has 46 sponsors as well as the endorsement of 133 companies, including Paul Mitchell hair company.

With so much recent support and proposed legislation, the people of America have made it clear that we are not a nation in favor of animal testing. It has proven to be an outdated process that puts innocent animals in harm for no reason. Scientific studies have revealed that the effects of certain cosmetics tested on animals are not conclusive or helpful in determining the safety of humans.

Thank California for taking a progressive stand against cosmetics animal testing. By signing this petition, you are thanking the legislators of California as well as urging the U.S. Congress to ban cosmetics animal testing once and for all.

Dear Senator Block and California legislators,

Thank you for passing the Cruelty Free Cosmetics Resolution, calling on Congress to take responsible action and ban animal testing as well as mandating alternative animal-testing methods whenever possible. California is setting a fine example for other states by urging Congress to end animal testing once and for all. With so much recent support and proposed legislation against animal cosmetics testing, the passing of your Cruelty Free Cosmetics Resolution on the heels of the Humane Cosmetics Act is bound to make a difference in the way animal welfare is viewed.

By involving Congress, California, often associated directly with cosmetic production, has chosen to reveal how intolerable animal cruelty is. By aiming to ban cosmetic animal testing, you are preventing a heartless, unnecessary procedure that is not fruitful in any way.

I sincerely thank you for your efforts to ban cosmetic animal testing by making the welfare of animals a high priority in California– an influential state synonymous with cosmetics. Please continue to stand strong and advocate until Congress passes legislation against animal testing.
