Target: Heath Rada, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church
Goal: Praise the Presbyterian Church of the United States for officiating same sex marriages and supporting LGBT rights
LGBTQ rights are being attacked across the country and abroad. However, some groups are standing up to support human rights. The Presbyterian Church of the United States has announced that it will now officiate weddings in states where gay marriage is legal. In addition, the Church is now considering changing the official documents to refer to those being married as “two people,” instead of only “one man and one woman.” This is a virtually unprecedented move by a Church because many religions are strictly opposed to any non-“traditional” marriage. By showing its solidarity for human rights, the Presbyterian Church of the United States is setting an exceptional example of inclusiveness and justice.
The Presbyterian Church is joining the ranks of the Episcopal Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America by allowing and supporting marriages between same sex couples. Alex McNeill is the director of an advocacy group pushing for more LGBTQ rights within the Presbyterian Church. He and his group’s followers have worked tirelessly to bring this issue to the Presbyterian Church leaders. They, ultimately, facilitated this monumental shift in ideology.
Praise the Presbyterian Church of the United States for its seismic decision to show support for all human rights.
Dear Heath Rada,
I recently read about the Presbyterian Church of the United States’ decision to allow marriages between same sex couples. I was very excited to learn about this because it shows a remarkable progressiveness and humanity that is not very common with some groups. By supporting same sex couples’ decision to remain together, you show strong support of loving, lasting relationships of all types. I am very glad to know that religions across the country are standing up for human rights, especially protecting those that involve love and families.
Thank you for your support of LGBTQ rights in the United States. I hope that further measures can be taken by changing the official Church doctrine to say marriage is between two people, instead of between one man and woman. Everyone deserves the chance to love and remain in a faithful relationship, no matter their genders or sexual preferences. Your support for LGBTQ rights is monumental in assuring the preservation of human rights.
