Target: Suzy Amis Cameron, co-founder of MUSE school
Goal: Commend school for prioritizing childhood nutrition by offering an entirely plant-based menu
Too often, adequate nutrition is not considered a priority for many school officials around the country. Pizza that tastes of cardboard, along with ground beef, unknown origin, covered in corn crust and doused in mysterious yellow sauce were and are the normal school lunch for thousands of school-age children. Some fed-up parents have decided to do something about the mysterious, nutritiously deficient offerings. Enter Suzy Amis Cameron, wife of the famous director James Cameron; she and her sister have created a school that focuses on good nutrition and will soon offer an entirely plant-based, nutritious menu.
The school is called MUSE and is located in Calabasas, California. MUSE is currently transforming to a 100 percent plant-based menu, which will make it the only all-vegan school in the United States. Cameron considers her school environmentally concerned and understands that to be an environmentalist means to not eat or promote the consumption of meat, due to its negative effect on the environment when produced in a factory-farmed environment. Cameron, her husband, and sister are all passionate about sustainability and educating children about healthy eating.
MUSE has incorporated a seed-to-table program, meaning the students take part in growing their own food on campus. Cameron extends her reach to other schools, encouraging gardens and more plant-based menus in an effort to encourage school-age children to eat more fruits and vegetables. Cameron’s motivation and passion is contagious within the area she lives and is slowly spreading. Commend her motivation and insistence on raising healthful children.
Dear Suzy Amis Cameron,
Obesity, disease and overall ill-health are rampant issues within the United States today. These issues often stem from little to no knowledge of nutrition, which begins in grade school. You have a deep interest in the too commonly nutritionally deficient school menu and have vowed to change this devastating reality. I am sincerely grateful for your creation of MUSE, as well as your educational outreach. Thank you for understanding that the younger generations must be aware of proper nutrition.
Transforming MUSE into a 100 percent plant-based menu school is incredible and important. The seed-to-table program now implemented is just as important; to know where one’s food comes from is priceless knowledge. Thank you for your dedication to the children of Calabasas. I sincerely hope your passion extends to schools around the country.
