Applaud Greenpeace for Admitting Fault Through Public Apology

Target: Greenpeace International executive director, Kumi Naidoo

Goal: Encourage and applaud financial transparency from Greenpeace International

Greenpeace International has recently stepped forward to admit a serious financial fault, which resulted in the loss of 3.8 million Euros (5.2 million USD). Greenpeace is an organization which does not rely on government or corporate financial assistance, meaning that all of its gained money, and in this case lost money, comes directly from individual supporters. The company issued a public apology, honestly admitting fault and sharing as much information about the problem that it could. Transparency within organizations, especially in terms of monetary movement, is extremely important; Greenpeace is right in declaring this issue.

The 3.8 million Euros were lost due to a foreign currency exchange management contract issue. Greenpeace has identified one sole individual with utmost responsibility for the loss, whom has since been relieved of his duties. While this is the only individual Greenpeace has terminated, the organization has mentioned through a chat forum that this individual was not the only one responsible for the loss, but indeed had a large role in the issue.

The organization is still accepting public comment about the issue and is responding in a timely manner to many questions, concerns and comments. The professionalism exhibited in this matter is noteworthy and respectable. Many public organizations could stand to learn about transparency and honesty from Greenpeace. Sign this petition to let Greenpeace know that its public apology and transparency for this financial issue is greatly appreciated and respected.

Dear Kumi Naidoo,

Recently, Greenpeace International found itself in a financial bind due to an issue within foreign currency exchange. Your organization was able to trace the issue to one particular individual whom was relieved of his duties. While this is a difficult decision, facing your current financial issue, specifically a loss of 3.8 million Euros, must be even more difficult. However, Greenpeace has handled this issue with utmost professionalism, care, and respect to donors.

I commend you and Greenpeace International for facing this problem with transparency. Because Greenpeace International relies heavily on the trust and dedication of citizens, openly admitting financial fault and portraying honesty for the entirety of this problem is of utmost importance. Greenpeace International has proven itself through this difficult time. I want you to know that I still stand behind Greenpeace International and look forward to contributing to its many valiant causes in the future.
