Goal: Thank the chain for responding to allegations about a little girl asked to leave one of its restaurants due to her facial scarring, and for donating to help cover her medical expenses
The popular fast-food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) should be praised for quickly responding to a disturbing customer complaint. Allegations were made that an employee at a KFC in Jackson, Mississippi asked a 3-year-old to leave because scarring on her face was frightening other patrons. KFC is investigating the allegations and has also promised to donate $30,000 toward the child’s medical bills. These actions are admirable in an age of deep corporate distrust.
The child was attacked at her grandfather’s home by pit bulls. Her nose, jaw, cheekbones and right eye socket were all broken. The right side of her face was paralyzed and she lost her right eye as well. Her face was reconstructed but there are still more surgeries that need to be done, and the donation from KFC will help greatly with the cost of these procedures.
The child’s grandmother is quoted as saying that the girl “won’t even look in the mirror anymore” because of this incident. It is helpful then that KFC responded so quickly, posting a formal apology the very next day. Hopefully the company can identify the problem at the location in Jackson and correct it so incidents like this do not occur in the future.

I hope that the investigation you open into this incident is also swift and thorough. As you will I’m sure agree, incidents like this cannot be allowed to happen again. I ask that you implement training strategies to ensure your employees are better prepared to deal with situations such as this with compassion and grace.
